Does God prefer that prayer and fasting be done openly where you can be seen by others?

Bible: No       Qur'an: Yes

Matthew 6:5-8 – 6. But when thou prayest enter into thy room, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to they Father, who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 6:16-18 – 16. Moreover, when ye fast… 18. appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father, who seeth in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.


An-Nisa 4:103 – And when you have performed (congregational) prayers, then remember Allah standing, sitting and reclining.

Jumah 62:9 – O believers! When a call is heard for the prayer of the day of congregation, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and cease your trading. That is better for you if you but knew it.
